Youthfest
I'll be presenting a comics workshop on July 2nd as part of
Youthfest in Taranaki. I'll be talking about my work and the
workshop will focus on character design and how to produce your
very own comics. Check out the Youthfest
website for more details!
The Comics
Show
A new documentary looking at New Zealand's comic scene will
be screening at this year's Film
Festival in July/August. It features interviews with Dylan
Horrocks, Karl Wills, Cornelius Stone, Chris Knox, Barry Linton,
myself (and many more to boot) and visits local conventions and
comic shops both here and in France. There are only a few
screenings and might sell-out fast so if you ever wanted to know
more about who-does-what in NZ comics run on down and grab your
tickets. Go on, run!
September
2006
It's been a long time since the last update, so there's
quite a bit to mention this time around...
First up, the
hilarious new series of bro'Town
hits the screen on Wednesday 27th September. TV3, 8pm, be there
or be the proverbial square! Also, the bro'Town website
has been expanding rapidly so do check out the behind-the-scenes
sections showing a great step-by-step introduction to the
animation process and profiles of some of the artists (yes,
including me...)
The bro'Town
team have been hitting the publicity trail promoting the new
show and I've been featured in The
Listener (issue 3463).
August 2006
bro'Town won three awards at the Air
New Zealand Screen Awards. The show picked up awards for
Best Comedy Script, Best Comedy, and I picked up an award for
Achievement in Production Design. Choice one!
I've also been
doing the media rounds lately and you can listen to a couple of
radio interviews I did with Imogen
Neale on BFM and Suzanne
Schokman on National Radio prior to the Going
Bananas Forum 2006.
Another project
I've been working on are the character designs for SkyCity
Cinemas' Film
Squad. I'll be putting some of the designs up for
viewing in my illustration section shortly, but in the meantime
check 'em out at the movies and join the club!
The
Dharma Punks graphic novel has unfortunately been
postponed. Due to unforeseen circumstances, of course... though
hopefully it will see the light of day in the not-too-distant
future. It seems a whole heap of folk are eager to grab a copy
so really it should only be a matter of time before it
eventually happens.
Cool, take care!

The second series of TV3's hit animated show, bro'Town, hits the small
screen on Wednesdays at 7:30pm. Written and
voiced by the Naked Samoans, and with character and
background designs by myself and a fantastic pre-production team
at Firehorse Films, you'll be in for a real treat if you tune
in.
With four of the
eight issues sold out, I'm pleased to say that the collected
edition of The Dharma Punks is
in the works. Featuring new cover artwork and maybe even some
extras inside, it's going to be a sweet little package
indeed.

A new animated series, bro'Town, hits the small
screen on Wednesday September 22nd at 8pm on TV3. Written and
voiced by the Naked Samoan comedy troupe, and with character and
background designs by myself and a fantastic pre-production team
at Firehorse Films, you'll be in for a real treat if you tune
in.

2004
Welcome to the new-look website. It's been a
long time since my last posting, so here's a brief rundown of what's
been happening over the last few months...
I have been
working as the designer on a new animated show called bro'Town.
Billed as New Zealand's first local primetime animated series,
it is written by the hilarious Naked Samoans and is due to
screen later this year on TV3. For my part, I worked on
designing the characters and backgrounds and am really looking
forward to seeing it on the small screen.
A new comic shop
has opened at 41 New North Road, Eden Terrace, Auckland. Cherry
Bomb Comics specialises in feminist, alternative and
subversive comics as well as local art, poetry, clothing and
accessories. And it has a comfy, free reading library to top it
all off. Choice!
In April The
Dharma Punks (part 8) won The Gotham Comics-Staedtler NZ
Award for "Best Comic" at the Eric Awards
2004. The
Eric Awards are New Zealand's annual comic awards - a
celebration and reminder of all the fantastic work that is being
produced here in Aotearoa.
And sadly, in
March Martin (Fuckin') Emond passed away. He was living in
America at the time. Martin was one of New Zealand's greatest
comic artists. He was an inspiration to me and many other
artists here in Aotearoa, and leaves behind a breathtaking
legacy of beautiful pop art. He will be sorely missed, that's
for sure.
(Check out Illicit for more)
Anyway, have a good look
around the new site. There's heaps of fresh stuff to check out
and I'll be adding even more in the not-to-distant future, so do
check back again soon. Until then, take care...

The latest issue of Pavement magazine (right)
features a new, one-off, full-colour comic of mine called The
Journeyman. If you're after a quick comic fix (it's only a
page long after all) then get yourselves to your nearest
newsagent!
Armageddon
hits Auckland again, this year from April 16-18th. I will be
there with full sets of Dharma Punks for sale. Also for
sale will be a whole swag of Dharma Punks tees, badges
and posters, as well as some new original artworks. It's shaping
up to be a strong turnout of local artists this year, with the
likes of Dylan Horrocks, Cornelius Stone, Craig Peterson, Karl
Wills and plenty of others... so don't be a stranger, eh!
02/06/2003
Yep! The conclusion to The Dharma
Punks (Part 8) is hitting bookshelves around the country
this week.
NEW!!! Dharma
Punks badges (white or black) are now
in stock and ready to be pinned onto your favourite item of
clothing...
ALSO... if you've
signed up for my mailing list it'll
pay to sign up again because the recent upgrading of my dear
computer meant some info was lost... and you guessed it, my
email contacts were one of the casualties. So please do sign up
again, or for the first time, and I'll keep you informed with
the latest news !

The grand finale of The Dharma Punks is coming... keep your eyes peeled
for it in the next few weeks!
12/11/2002
After a slight delay, I'm jolly happy to say Part
7 of The Dharma Punks is at the printers and will be on the book
shelves within the next couple of weeks. At a whopping eighty pages it's
the biggest issue yet... and yes you lucky little scamps, despite being a
double issue, the price will remain the same...
I will be attending the Armageddon
convention in Wellington on 23 - 24 November, so if you're in Wellington,
do pop by the con and say 'hello'. It's always great to meet wonderful
folk such as yourselves!
07/07/2002
Part 6 of The Dharma Punks will be hitting the stores the week of
July 8.
It's been a wee while
coming, but it is a whopper of an issue - yep, sixty three pages of
lovingly crafted comics to keep you entertained and amused 'til part 7...
For a sneaky little peek at
what's in store in Part 6 click here!
13/03/2002
Preview Part 5 of The Dharma Punks. The
comic will be hitting the streets in about two weeks time, so get y'self
ready and hold onto yer hats!
Good news for me - the
lovely folk at Creative New Zealand will be funding parts 5 - 8 of The
Dharma Punks! Yee ha!!!
12/03/2002
Keep your eyes peeled for the Armageddon
2002 magazine which should be available free around Auckland. Featured in
it is a full colour, two page comic of mine called The
Swarm. For those of you not in Auckland, fear not, you can also check
it out in the comics section of this here site.
22/01/2002
It's been a long while since I've updated the site, and we've
definitely got things to catch up on!
First up - issue 4 of The
Dharma Punks is currently on sale. Look out for issue 5 in late February.
Some original artwork from
The Dharma Punks is currently featured in Auckland Art Gallery's The
Cartoon Show. Also featured are original work by Dylan Horrocks, Tim
Kidd, Roger Langridge, Martin Emond, Karl Wills, and there are comics for
sale at the gallery shop...
Also new, are three illustrations
(Che Fu, Shihad, Garbage) which appeared in the Big Day Out 2002 'Zine.
23/10/2001
I've finally begun adding some online comcs to the comics section of
the site. First up is Kids. It was originally published in black &
white in the 1999 Armageddon booklet. But here it is, reappearing in
full colour.
And big apologies for the
delay, but it's looking like The Dharma Punks #4 will be released a few
weeks late. Look out for it in early November, and I'll be putting some
preview pages on this wee site in the next week or so.
22/10/2001
The Armageddon Convention in Wellington was just grand. It was great to
meet all you wonderful Wellington readers. Great too to spend the
weekend sitting amongst other comic artists and reading all the other
fantastic comics coming out from the proverbial woodworks.
13/09/2001
For anyone in Wellington during this coming weekend (15-16 September),
you might be interested in popping on in to the Armageddon
Pulp Expo convention. I'll be there with a bundle of The Dharma
Punks comics, t-shirts and posters for sale. Also present will be Simon
Morse with his new comic 'Toolbox', Toby Morris with a great new
anthology 'Officer Pup', Dylan Horrocks (who won't be showcasing his new
works due to them being on a plane in a closed-down airport somewhere in
America) and many other local artists to boot.
15/08/2001
Preview Part 3 of The Dharma Punks now! Go
on, whet that appetite!
13/08/2001
The Dharma Punks # 3 will be available from August 24. Preview pages
will be online in the next few days. In the meantime, the cover of # 3
is to the right...
25/06/2001
If you'd like to check out a couple of interviews featuring my good
self, then you can take a peek at Gotham Comics' recently renovated (and
oh-so swish) website, where you'll find an interview
and what you have to do to be in to win a Dharma Punks t-shirt or
poster.
The latest issue of the
rather wonderful Vortex zine features a more in-depth interview with
myself, and you can track down copies of this by emailing either Vortex
or Red Letter Zine Distro.
Both outfits are run by lovely folk, and they'll see you right, I'm
sure...
18/06/2001
Part 2 of The Dharma Punks will be hitting the shelves at a store
near you this week, so please do feel free to spread the word... The
perils of writing editorials at 2am the day before going to the printers
has hit home at the realisation that I forgot to say thanks to some good
folk, and now it's too late. Well kinda. So thanks to Lars for help with
those elusive onomatopoeic sound effects, Teri for writing tips, and
Kelly for plot ideas.
27/05/2001
Part 2 of The Dharma Punks will be hitting the shelves in about three
weeks. Big apologies to you wonderful readers who were expecting it
sooner... What can I say, except that the monthly release schedule was
just too much for me to handle. So yeah, bi-monthly is now officially
the go. And in the meantime if you'd like a sneak
preview of what's in store in Part 2 just click on the red
type...
26/05/2001
There are a couple of new reviews for Part 1
of The Dharma Punks for any media watchers out there.
28/04/2001
It's the day after an appearance on SPACE on TV, and there has been a
barrage of "Where can I get The Dharma Punks?" questions
e-mailed my way. Well, look no further. For a pretty comprehensive list
of shops stocking the comic click here.
19/04/2001
The Dharma Punks has hit the streets and is
waiting patiently to be picked up off the shelf at a comic, book, or
magazine shop near you.
The comic
launch and exhibition held at Alleluya Gallery in K'Rd, Auckland,
was a mighty success despite the rain and impending cyclone bearing down
on our fair city. Click the image to the right for more photos of the
exhibition, the closing night party, and rare glimpses of some of
Auckland's finest comic artists.
03/04/2001

Dharma Punks comic is due for release in April 2001. Stay
